DR. JOHN T. LIVECCHI: Any lump or bump, any mole, any cyst, needs to be looked at and taken out. One doesn’t know what that is. You can look at something and it can look atypical and it comes back benign. You can look at something and maybe it looks the opposite and it may come back malignant. So one may never know. You may have a growth, bring it in, please, while it’s small. It’s a lot more difficult to operate on someone who just waits to see if it goes away. People are afraid, in general, to come in because they think, “Oh, my goodness, what is it going to be?” But the fact of the matter is get something early and you will not only be saving your life but saving a large portion of your body because major reconstruction would be involved if we needed to remove a larger mass that was smaller years ago.
