DR. BRIAN A. PHILPOTTS: One of the more common disease that we take care of, macular degeneration and another would be diabetic retinopathy, suffer from patients having high levels of vascular endothelial growth factors produced. One of the medicines that I told you that were recently developed, vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors, help us to suppress the leakage and permeability of these blood vessels and the growth of abnormal blood vessels that shouldn’t be there and are causing diseases. Some of these drugs include Lucentis, Avast, and Macugen. We have used these medicines extensively and have good results with them.
