DR. BRIAN A. PHILPOTTS: My area of sub-specialty concentrates on the tissues in the eye that are in the back of the eye and the jelly that fills the center of the eye. Most of these structures are highly vascularized and highly enervated so there are many systemic diseases that manifest in the eye and those are the diseases that we take care of including diabetic retinopathy, various types of inflammation called iritis or uveitis, carotiditis and retinitis. We also take care of many surgical problems including retinal detachments, macular holes, macular wrinkles or punctures, retinal tears. We also take care of macular degeneration, both the dry and the wet or the exudated form.
